Brazil-Germany preview - World Cup 2014

Brazil-Germany preview - World Cup 2014

This was a semi final line-up that most people had expected and predicted: Brazil vs Germany. But some unexpected events, mainly Neymar’s injury forced absence, have tilted the balance in favour of the Germans and made this match into an emotional affair. Neymar was heavily fouled in the match against Colombia and he had to be carried off in a stretcher in the second half. Tests later revealed a fractured vertebra. To cut a long story short, he has been ruled out of World Cup 2014.

Brazil-Germany Preview

In spite of his absence, the H2H record offers hopes for Brazil. They have won four of the last six meetings against Germany. Germany stumbled in the semi final stage in the previous two world cups. Brazil, on the other hand, reached the finals on the previous three occasions they managed to enter the semi final stage. The last time they lost in the semi final stage was in 1978.

Players

Brazil now must learn to win without Neymar. They certainly look less frightening without him. The misfiring stars in their frontline now have no other way than finding their top form. Fred has been so disappointing that he has become something of a laughing stock. Oscar had a fantastic opening game, and that was it. He was largely anonymous in other games. The good news for Brazil is that Hulk has been improving after each game. The same can be said about Marcelo too. Willian, who is widely expected to replace Neymar, will have to play the game of his life.

Brazil will also have to cope with the absence of Thiago Silva, who has been suspended. That would leave more holes in their already porous defence. And Germany has a number of forwards who can exploit the holes. The most prolific among them is Thomas Muller. But the other members of their squad are game changers on their day, from Miroslav Klose and André Schürrle to Philipp Lahm and Mats Hummels – except for Manuel Neuer, who happens to be the best goal keeper left in this world cup.

Brazil-Germany Prediction

Germany has shown in recent times a tendency to freeze on big occasions. Brazil will start as underdogs for this match.
