Croatia-Mexico preview - World Cup 2014

Croatia-Mexico preview - World Cup 2014

After two games each in the span of a couple of weeks, Mexico and Croatia come face to face, with each team holding its fate in its own hands. The winner will go through to the second round, while the loser will go out of World Cup 2014. Even a draw would do it for Mexico, while Croatia needs an outright win.

Croatia has a statistical chance of going through if the match ends in a draw, and Mexico may still reach the second round even if they lose this match. However, both the scenarios require a heavy loss for Brazil against Cameroon. It is improbable, but not impossible.

Croatia-Mexico Preview

Mexico has not conceded a goal in their two world cup matches. Nigeria remains the only other team in the tournament to have kept clean sheets in both their games. While Nigeria played against Bosnia and Iran, Mexico achieved this in spite of playing against Brazil and Cameroon. Another clean sheet would do the job for them.

Croatia has a terrific attack that can breach the Mexican defence. They scored in both the games, and against Cameroon they slammed four goals. However, they started the goal rush only after Cameroon had been reduced to 10 men.

Mexico will follow the examples of Chile and Uruguay, who both dispatched the mighty European teams, Spain and England, respectively, with consummate ease.

Players

All eyes will be on Mexico’s goal keeper Guillermo Ochoa, who pulled off some miraculous saves against Brazil. He is likely to have a tough game again, with the Croatian attack boasting of Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Mario Mandžukić and Ivica Olić.

Croatia-Mexico Prediction

This is a difficult one to predict, we predict a narrow win for Croatia.
