Korea Republic-Belgium preview - World Cup 2014

Republic of Korea has the toughest task in the final day of the group stage in World Cup 2014. They still have a chance to reach the second round. Two things must happen for them to qualify. First, they have to beat Belgium by a good margin – ideally by four or five goals. Second, Russia must score a narrow win over Algeria. The first perquisite is the more difficult of the two to materialize.

Korea Republic-Belgium Preview

South Korea was lacklustre in both their previous games. They managed to draw with Russia, but were demolished by Algeria. Belgium, on the other hand, failed to live up to the pre-tournament expectations. They won both their previous games, but their overall game was patchy at best. In both the games, all the goals were scored by second-half substitutes. Belgium will be eager to figure out the best eleven, based on the team’s performance against the Koreans.

Even the most optimistic among the Korean fans will not bet for their team’s entry into the second round. Forget a big win, even a narrow win for South Korea against Belgium appears improbable.

Players

Romelu Lukaku has failed in both the matches. So has Eden Hazard. The fragile Korean defence offers a good chance for both the young guns to regain their form ahead of the knock-out round. Belgium could rest Axel Witsel and Toby Alderweireld, who are both booked once. Skipper Vincent Kompany too is a doubtful starter because of a groin injury.

Belgium should canter to an easy win
