For a big part of the season Lyon was on the top of the
Ligue 1 table. However, this team failed to keep up with PSG in the second half of the season. Lyon players will always feel sorry for missing the chance to beat PSG as in both of their duels, score was 1-1. Still, grabbing the 2nd place is a great success. Because of that, we’ll see Lyon in the Champions League in the new season.
Unlike
PSG and Monaco, Lyon is not a side whose policy is to spend money on transfers. In 2014, they spent only €1.5M for new signings, which is a really small amount compared to the amount PSG spent that year - €73M. Instead of buying players, Lyon focuses on youth development. The best example that a club can train a man to become a world-class player is Alexandre Lacazette. He’s been in the club his whole professional career, but the 2014/2015 season saw him becoming one of the best French attackers. He was the top scorer in the Ligue 1 with 27 goals, leaving behind superstars like Ibrahimovic and Cavani.
Besides the 24-year-old Lacazette, several even younger players had an amazing season. A 21-year-old striker, N'Jie scored 7 times in 30 games, same as attacking midfielder Corentin Tolisso. Despite having only 20 years, Tolisso was one of the crucial Lyon men this season. Actually, he and goalkeeper, Lopes are the only two Lyon players who played every Ligue 1 match.
