Before the 2014/2015 season of the Premier League started, Manchester City fans were confident their team would keep the trophy in their possession. They did a fairly good job, but Chelsea was better, leaving the citizens on the 2nd place.
Manchester City has always been great in the attack and in 2014/2015, they scored the most goals of all the teams in the Premier League. The man who deserves the most credit for this is Sergio Aguero. He was the league’s top scorer with 26 goals. The 2nd-best scorer in Manchester City was David Silva, who besides scoring, was also in charge of creating chances.
Manchester City management was busy during the transfer periods. They brought an expensive defender, Mangala from Porto during the summer, for € 40M, while in January they bought Wilfred Bony from Swansea for 5 mil less. However, the most talked about player was Frank Lampard, a legendary Chelsea midfielder, who came to the City for a season-long loan spell.
Lampard was the one who brought the equalizer to his new team against his old one. He made it 1-1 Manchester City – Chelsea, when these two met in September 2014. At that time, the Citizens were still full of hope for winning the Premier League again, but several bad performances that happened later on, cost them the title. Manchester City lost 7 matches in total, some of which were totally unexpected, like the one against Burnley, a team that got relegated at the end.
