Manchester United’s rejuvenation under the stewardship of Ryan Giggs is set to continue as the team hosts Sunderland on this Saturday. Their 4-0 win over Norwich City last week seemed to have brought back the memories of their golden era. They will have to dish out such performances on a constant basis to win back the fans’ trust. Sunderland is one of the relegation candidates. But they are fighting their heart out for survival.

Sunderland’s recent performances against the top clubs should concern Giggs. They gave a scare to Liverpool, but lost out narrowly. They held Manchester City and defeated Chelsea. United should be vary of the minnow’s giant-killing capability.

The match is more important for Sunderland, as far as league’s stakes are concerned. They have managed to pull themselves out of the relegation block with string of good results. But they are not entirely out of danger, as they are ahead of 18th-placed Norwich City only on goal difference. A win, or more realistically a draw, is what they look for against United.

United will settle for nothing less than a win. They need a win to keep the fight to take a Europa League place alive too.

Wayne Rooney’s fitness is a concern for the Manchester side, as he reportedly limped off from training the other day. Robin Van Persie is fit and, along with the in-form Juan Mata, forms the core of United’s frontline.

Adam Johnson, Connor Wickham and Fabio Borini have all contributed in Sunderland’s revival. Their fans will hope that one of them or somebody else will step up against United too.
