Norwich City-Liverpool betting preview

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard summed up nicely the importance of the match against Norwich City for his team’s title hopes: “Norwich now become Man City. Norwich become Chelsea. Norwich become Manchester United. That's how big it is. We have got to treat Norwich like we treated AC Milan in 2005.” He was talking after Liverpool won a crucial encounter against Manchester City last week.

The club’s supporters, already a bunch of nervous wrecks, would prefer a much easier win than that famed Istanbul 2005 win over Milan. The gap in quality between the two sides is so obvious. Liverpool are on a 10-match winning spree and is looking for the 11th win. Norwich, on the other hand, have managed just eight wins in the entire season.

The H2H record between these sides too reflects the facile dominance of Liverpool. In the last decade, there have been nine games between these sides. Liverpool won eight of those matches, while one match ended in a draw.

So, why would Gerrard compare the minnows to Man City, Chelsea, Man United or Milan? That is the pressure of Premier League title race.

There is another factor too. Norwich are facing relegation threat. That makes the team doubly motivated to succeed against the league leaders. The recent performances of Sunderland and Crystal Palace would spur them on.

Liverpool are set to miss Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson. The team seems to possess capable replacements. Luis Suárez, having scored 11 goals with the help of three hat-tricks against Norwich, will be eagerly looking forward to meet the Canaries.

Norwich City-Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool, unless the pressure of title chase gets to them, should collect three points out of this fixture. They tend to struggle against lower-ranked teams, but they have shown remarkable resilience in this season close out tough games.
