Who will win the Premier League?
The balance has shifted in the race for the title after a ‘Super Sunday’ in the Premier League. Liverpool who were favourites for the title lost out to a tactical masterclass by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at Anfield in a 2-0 loss. What makes the win for the Blues even more spectacular is the fact that the team fielded was more or less, a B team and they are now just two points behind in 2nd place with 78 points.
Following the result in Anfield, 3rd place Manchester City were given a huge lift as they beat high flyers, Crystal Palace 2-0 to go only 3 points behind Brendan Rodgers’ men however, with a superior goal difference and a game in hand. Liverpool still remain first but whether they can remain first with only two games left in the season remains to be seen. Many questioned whether they could handle the pressure as they haven’t been in a situation like this in decades and their loss to Chelsea could prove to be a demoralizing turning point in this exciting title race.
The last few ties between the title contenders see Liverpool go to Crystal Palace next and end the season with a home tie with struggling, Newcastle. Chelsea will host Norwich City before ending the season with a trip to Wales as Cardiff City await while Manchester City - having a game in hand - travel to Everton preceding two home ties against Aston Villa and West Ham.
Looking at the fixture list, it would seem Chelsea have the kindest run of fixtures, however, their Champions League aspirations could come in the way as they face Atletico Madrid in a crucial second leg semifinal encounter. Liverpool and Manchester City on the other hand, have no other commitments so they may have an edge over Chelsea.
Because Manuel Pellegrini’s men have won their last two games and look back on track, it’s no wonder that they’re the outright favourites to win the Premier League though with odds of 1.80 @ Bet365.com. Liverpool are second favourites with 2.25 @ Bet365.com while Chelsea, despite their win over the leaders, have an outside chance of 15.0 @ Bet365.com.
All Manchester City need to do is win their last three remaining games and the title is theirs while Liverpool (unless they go on a goal bonanza and have a superior goal difference to City) and Chelsea don’t have their fate in their hands.
