Lorient-PSG betting preview
Matches against Lorient bring fond memories to the PSG fans. In the first match of the last season, in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his debut for the club, the team came back in the dying moments of the match from a two-goal deficit to earn a draw. Guess who scored those goals? None other than the big Swede himself.
In his second season, Ibrahimovic has grown to become the talisman of the club. PSG is on top of the Ligue 1, with a handsome lead of eight points over its nearest competitor AS Monaco. Lorient’s fortunes have nosedived. The club, which finishes eighth in the last season, is languishing at the 12 position this season. A possible defeat against Paris Saint Germain at home on this Friday is likely to push the side further down.
PSG has been on a winning spree in 2014. The team has won eight of its ten league games in this year. Nine more rounds of games remaining in the league. Another seven or eight wins are all they need to retain the Ligue One crown. They would consider matches against teams placed in the lower half of the table as must win matches. Their only worry would be about adapting to the newly laid artificial surface at the Stade du Moustoir in Lorient.
Lorient, on the other hand, has plenty of problems. Their 10 games in 2014 have fetched them just two wins and, worse, five defeats. They will struggle to contain PSG even at the height of their prowess. At this form, they appear sitting ducks.
Ibrahimovic, on a high after his brace against St Etienne last week, has always found Lorient a happy hunting ground: three goals in two visits, and counting. He would face competition from within his team, as Edinson Cavani is back with full fitness.
Lorient’s hopes for a miracle depend on Vincent Aboubakar, Jeremie Aliadiere and Yann Jouffre. The trio need to be at their sparkling best to unsettle the PSG defence.
