Everton will look forward to pocket three of the easiest away points of the season when they play against Sunderland on this weekend. The Merseyside team is on a high after thrashing Arsenal last week to strengthen their bid for a Champions League berth.

Sunderland should not offer them much of a problem. The team is at the bottom of the Premier League table. But interestingly, they have two games in hand. Theoretically, they have a better chance than other teams in the relegation zone – Cardiff City and Fulham – to reach a point of safety. But their current form does not herald any such miracles.

Everton are fifth, one point behind Arsenal; but they have a game in hand. The problem for them is that while they have some tough matches coming up, such as the one against Manchester City, Arsenal have relatively easy games. That makes the match against Sunderland all the more important. Everton must win at the Stadium of Light.

The H2H record contains some bad omens for Everton. They have lost their last two games against Sunderland. But those twin wins came after a gap of almost 12 years. Everton will guard against the possibility of a banana skin game that top-ranked teams are prone to have towards the end of the season. Nothing in Sunderland’s recent form suggests a hat-trick of wins for them though.

Everton don't have any injury concerns. The usual suspects Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas and Leighton Baines will torment the Sunderland defence. The hosts will hope against hope that somebody, Adam Johnson or perhaps Fabio Borini, will have a fabulous evening and bring a much needed win for the team.

Unless you are a die-hard Sunderland fan, there is no need for you to worry about the result of the match. Everton are likely to win hands down.
