Liverpool thrashed them 4-0 in last week’s encounter at Anfield. Now they are back at the safety of their home, and they have one of the weakest teams in the league to play against. What they need is a thumping win that will bring their confidence back.

Perhaps the match will be more important for Sunderland. Some of the bottom-ranked teams have shown fighting spirit when faced with imminent relegation. Sunderland too displayed flashes of resilience against Liverpool a couple of weeks back. Their late assault clearly rattled Liverpool then. Their fans will look forward to a similar performance. Otherwise, they will remain at the bottom of the league, in spite of having two games in hand.

The H2H statistics show a definite upper hand for Tottenham. But their recent form should be a worry. At present, they are not even in contention for the fourth position of the league. Manchester United’s resurgent form is threatening their hopes of a Europa League berth. They are seventh at the moment, one point behind United. Emmanuel Adebayor and Paulinho are expected to start for the Spurs. Their presence would provide the team with much needed creativity up front that was missing in the game against Liverpool.
