The Spanish La Liga witnesses perhaps the most intense battle all around of all European leagues. Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are jostling for the top spot. A similar exciting competition is going on for the fifth position, where Villareal, Sevilla and Real Sociedad are going all-out to secure the position.

Sevilla have the slight edge at moment, but they are playing against Real Madrid this week. It offers Villarreal, who meets Getafe in a mid-week tie, a great chance to establish the lead. Getafe itself is in another exciting race – that is to avoid relegation.

Only Real Betis appear like a surefire relegation candidate. As many as six teams are in the firing line to fall in the other two positions. Getafe are second in the list. The team will have to pull out something magical to escape from the relegation threat.

Both the teams are struggling for form in the league. But Getafe is struggling big time. It has been 14 games since they registered a win. For Villarreal it has been four matches since they last won. The match against Getafe might offer them perhaps the best chance to end the win drought.

One positive note for Getafe are that the team has done well against Villarreal – having won four of the last six matches. They will be hoping against hope that they can register their first win of 2014 against Villarreal.

Villarreal have two terrific strikers in Ikechukwu Uche and Giovani Dos Santos. They just need to find their rhythm. Pedro León is the main goal-scoring hope for Getafe.
